About B.J.
B.J. Davis is a singer/songwriter/comedian based in Holts Summit, MO. With a career spanning several decades, he has performed in variety of venues both big and small all over the U.S.!
Over the years, several of B.J.’s original recordings (both serious and comedic) have received regional and national critical acclaim.
B.J. has received regional and national radio airplay, television exposure, performed literally thousands of successful live performances and has garnered numerous national sponsorships.
In 2001, B.J. was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), an autoimmune disease that attacks the body’s immune system, organs and joints and became a wheelchair user.
Initially, B.J. was angry at the world and to say the least, a bit defeated and deflated. He realized that if he wanted to continue doing what he loved to do, it would require a change in attitude and a bit of reinvention on his part.
“It took some time but, after the anger and the all-consuming pity party, “says Davis. “I accepted living with RA, accepted using a wheelchair, accepted the challenges that would lie ahead. I got myself together mentally and set out to reinvent myself as an entertainer so, that I could continue to do what I love to do!”
B.J. has an interesting way of approaching life and the disease. "This RA thing is no fun,” says Davis. “It is an extremely challenging illness. It is the type of disease, that if you let it; will control you and even consume you. With some of the new drugs, treatments, and assistive technology it DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY! Having a disability is what you make of it! ALL of us are dealt challenges in life. How we respond to those challenges is what makes us who we are!”
Today, with that reinvention complete, B.J. continues to write, perform and inspire...
He maintains an active schedule; of literally hundreds of performances, appearances and speaking engagements annually! Many times to the amazement of colleagues, doctors and those around him!
In 2004, B.J. formed The B.J. Davis Foundation; a Missouri 501 (c) 3 Non-profit Corporation. "The B.J. Davis Foundation is the realization of a dream," says Davis. "I am truly blessed to be able to use the gifts of music and comedy to hopefully enhance the lives of people I encounter. There are very real needs across this great country of ours. So many worthy causes and individuals that for various reasons, just don't receive the help they need and deserve. The B.J. Davis Foundation was established to hopefully fulfill some of those needs. Simply put, The B.J. Davis Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps those organizations and individuals who have "fallen through the cracks"!
B.J.’s music today, while still having a strong country influence, has a certain richness, completeness, variety and depth that only comes from years of perfecting your craft. With tunes ranging from light hearted comedic and parody songs to heart wrenching ballads and a little bit of everything in between.
One never knows what the next performance or recording might consist of!
Davis is in the middle of some new projects that he’s really excited about.
“I think when you first start out in music, you do what everybody else is doing…because it makes sense…Because it’s what sells…it’s what’s popular,” says Davis. “As you grow as a person and as an artist, you hopefully get to a point, where you step a bit out of your comfort zone and you write and perform music…just because it is who you are and it is just good music!
